Who’s Online?

The Internet is a huge, complex digital garbage dump full of nonsense and noninformation. It seems specifically designed as a fantasyland for children, criminals, and crazy people.

Case in point, recently, someone went to the trouble of creating a fraudulent Facebook page using the name and images of a well-known fiction writer, and then proceeded to contact other FB users pretending to be this writer.

I’m not sure what the endgame was supposed to be, but being suspicious of all things Internet-related, I contacted the writer’s publisher. They assured me it was a fake site. A few hours later, the FB page disappeared.

This is just another reminder that nothing on the Internet is real or true, and that whatever stranger you might be corresponding with online is likely someone else entirely.
