A friend of mine had an interesting idea about what to do for the White House after Trump the Squatter is finally evicted: Reconsecration.
Normally, reconsecration means to make a church “holy again after it has been desecrated or otherwise rendered unfit for worship. The act of reconsecration typically involves prayers, rituals, and symbolic actions to purify and dedicate the church for its intended purpose again.”
The White House will need a secular form of this restoration and purification. Perhaps several respected historians and political writers could serve in the traditional role of priests, pointing out the building’s long history as a symbol of freedom, democracy, and progressive politics, and now a commitment to the restoration of those ideals and goals. As Trump the Destroyer might recognize, such a ceremony would make great television: an Inauguration and a Reconsecration.
